Presentation :
I am a lecturer in the B&E (Biology & Ecology) department of the Agro Institute/ Montpellier SupAgro since 2007, and I carry out my research activity at LEPSE. I am currently co-supervising a thesis focused on the evaluation of the role of carbon balance in the responses of early reproductive development of microvines to temperature increase within the ANR DURAVITIS project (2011-2014), and I coordinate a scientific axis of this project. I teach ecophysiology on annual and perennial plants at different levels of training at Montpellier SupAgro and the University of Montpellier 1. I coordinate 3 teaching modules and I am involved in various collective tasks at Montpellier SupAgro and transfer missions.

Research activities
I did my thesis at ENSAM (now Institut Agro / Montpellier SupAgro) under the supervision of J. Wery (UMR SYSTEM) and E. Lebon (UMR Lepse), in collaboration with C. Riou (IFV) (1999-2003). The objective of this thesis was to analyse and model the functioning of the vine in response to water deficit for the development of tools for characterising and managing the water status of vineyards. The tool developed was based on the coupling of a water balance model with indicators of the activity of the vine's sources and sinks1.
I carried out a post-doctorate at CIRAD in Montpellier under the supervision of A. Bégué (AMIS Department), in collaboration with the commercial operator of SPOT Image satellites (2003-2004). I was interested in the potential of time series of satellite images used alone, or coupled to the Monteith model or to MOSICAS (a crop model for simulating sugarcane growth under water stress), to predict the yield of usable stalks and sugar in sugarcane in tropical environments (Guadeloupe and Reunion). I then benefited from a post-doctoral contract at CSIRO in Australia (2004-2006), where I was supervised by R. Walker and P. Clingeleffer (Department Plant Industry). My mission was to integrate modules for the simulation of berry growth and quality in grapevines into the VineLOGIC crop model (a model for the simulation of vegetative growth in grapevines under water and salt constraints, integrating different pruning systems and different genotypes).
I started my research work during my recruitment at Montpellier SupAgro (2007-2009), via the co-supervision of T. Scholasch's thesis with J. Lecoeur and E. Lebon (UMR LEPSE). This thesis, carried out in partnership with the University of California-Berkeley (USA), aimed to develop a tool for evaluating irrigation strategies in vineyards subject to high evaporative demand in the Napa Valley. The tool was based on the coupling of a water balance model and sap flow measurements. The thesis resulted in the creation of the student's own company (Fruition Sciences SAS). My current research activity, which started in 2009, is part of the ANR DURAVITIS project (Developmental, molecular and genetic bases of vine adaptation to thermal stress; 2011-2014), coordinated by L. Torregrosa (TGU AGAP-DAVEM). The objectives of this multidisciplinary project are to determine the developmental and metabolic responses of microvines to temperature increases, at the plant or cluster level, and to identify temperature adaptation QTLs. It brings together 4 UMRs in Montpellier and Bordeaux (AGAP, LEPSE, SPO and EGFV). I am coordinating a work package of this project. My research project focuses on the response of berry number development to temperature increase in microvines and the role of carbon balance. I am co-supervising the thesis of N. Luchaire on this topic with B. Muller (DR LEPSE) and L. Torregrosa4.

Teaching activities:
I carry out my teaching activities in the Biology & Ecology (B&E) department, directed by M.L. Navas (CEFE). I mainly teach in the Common Core of the Agronomic Engineering course, the Professional Licence in Sustainable Agriculture, the Green Chemistry Option, the Viticulture-Oenology Option, the Professional Master in Vine and Wine and the International Master in Vinifera. These last three courses are run by the IHEV (Institut des Hautes Études de la Vigne et du Vin) in partnership with the B&E department. I am also involved in the teaching of the National Oenologist Diploma at the University of Montpellier 1 - UFR Pharmacy.
I teach in the fields of ecophysiology and modelling on annual and perennial plants (vine in particular). The general themes of my teaching are (i) phenology, production and distribution of biomass in the plant, and yield elaboration under potential conditions or under abiotic constraints; and (ii) water relations in the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum, irrigation management and agro-climatic indices. In order to ensure continuity between agronomy, ecophysiology-bioclimatology, biochemistry and genetics, I teach multi-voice courses with teachers from the B&E and MPRS (Milieux, Productions, Ressources et Systèmes) departments and from the University of Geisenheim (Germany). I am involved in tutoring, supervision and evaluation of internships for 2nd and 3rd year agricultural engineering students and Masters students.
I am in charge of the coordination of two teaching modules in the Viticulture-Œnology/Master's Degree in Vine and Wine: UE1 'Morphology, Physiology and Genetics' (since 2008) and UE11 'Vine Ecology' (co-coordination with A. Metay -UMR SYSTEM-Department MPRS; since 2013). I coordinate the 'Vine Ecology and Physiology' module of the Mater International Vinifera (since 2009) involving teachers from foreign universities (Germany, Australia, USA, Spain, Argentina). I have been elected to the Montpellier SupAgro faculty council since 2013 and I am involved in the tenure commission for research professors. I have been elected as a representative of the teacher-researchers on the internal council of IHEV since 2009 and on the council of the B&E department since 2011.

Transfer activities:
I have been involved in the scientific committee of the partnership between the Association Climatique de l'Hérault (ACH) and Montpellier SupAgro since 2012. The latter aims to promote information exchange, and the development of joint actions in the field of agroclimatology and agropedology for the wine industry (coordinators: F. Laget - ACH and B. Tysseyre - Agro Bioprocesses Department, UMR ITAP). Since 2013, I have been involved in setting up an experimental system to evaluate the role of nitrogen fertilisation on the reserve and floribundity of vines in the Foncalieu vineyards (G. Ruetsch) in collaboration with L. Torregrosa. The company Vivelys has recently joined this project (N. Bernard).
